A better clean starts
with better questions.
The right dishwasher is the one that suits your kitchen and the way you load it. Start with sound, rack space, wash coverage and drying. A stainless-steel finish on the outside does not tell you what the tub is made of inside.
Quiet is a specification. Not a promise.
Compare the manufacturer’s dBA rating for each exact model. Lower numbers mean a lower rated sound level; the room, installation and cycle still affect what you hear.
The models in this guide range from 42 to 52 dBA. For an open-plan kitchen, the three 42 dBA entries are worth investigating first on sound alone. This is a shortlist by a specification, not a ranking of cleaning quality. Do not read a 10 dB difference as “10% quieter.” Decibels use a logarithmic scale. Check installation clearances, insulation and levelling as carefully as the specification.
Look inside. The finish can fool you.
Separate three materials: the exterior door, the tub and the rack coating. “Stainless steel” in a product title often describes the exterior only.
Bosch SHX78CM5N, LG LDTH7972S and Samsung DW80B7070US/AC have documented stainless-steel tubs. Frigidaire GDPH4515AF has a documented plastic tub despite its stainless exterior. The Maytag tub needs confirmation from its current Canadian documentation before this draft makes that claim. Inspect rack height, fold-down tines, cutlery placement and room for your biggest plate. A third rack is useful only if the remaining clearance fits what you wash. Stainless steel alone does not establish a performance winner.
Four arms. Two arms. What actually changes?
Wash systems change how water reaches dishes. Loading, detergent, water conditions and the selected cycle still matter. The number of arms alone cannot tell you which model cleans best.
LG describes QuadWash as a four-arm, multi-motion mechanism that reaches dishes from different directions. Do not confuse its four branches with the number of spray-arm levels: the LDTH7972S sheet separately lists top, upper and lower assemblies. QuadWash Pro is the feature fitted to the exact LG model here. Samsung describes StormWash+ as dual wash arms plus a rotating spray jet. Bosch lists sensor-led PrecisionWash with PowerControl. Frigidaire uses an orbital lower arm. Maytag’s Dual Power Filtration combines microfiltration with a chopper; PowerBlast is its intensive wash cycle. These are different mechanisms, not interchangeable quality scores.
The cycle ends. Does the door open?
Automatic door opening and heated drying are different approaches. Choose based on how and when you unload, then verify the exact model and cycle.
Samsung DW80B7070US/AC explicitly lists AutoRelease: the door releases at the end of a cycle. Bosch AutoAir is also an automatic door-opening system on selected models. It should not be assumed on the CrystalDry-equipped SHX78CM5N. LG lists Dynamic Heat Dry for LDTH7972S; Bosch lists CrystalDry for SHX78CM5N; Maytag describes heated drying; Frigidaire lists MaxBoost. The retrieved sources do not confirm an automatic door-opening feature for those four exact models. “Not confirmed” is deliberately different from “no.”
So which one performs best?
These sources establish features, not a controlled head-to-head test. Kaladid has not lab-tested these models and does not name an overall cleaning winner.
A useful performance comparison would measure dried-on food removal, redeposit, plastic drying, cycle duration, water and energy use under comparable conditions. Manufacturer claims and customer stars cannot substitute for that test. For now, choose a feature shortlist: the three 42 dBA models for rated sound; the Samsung for verified automatic opening; the Maytag for its documented filtration design. Check current local service, warranty terms and the retailer’s exact SKU before buying. These are editorial starting points, not test verdicts.
Same job. Different approaches.
